During English class, your child has been taking part in the following:
- learning the names of the 12 months of the year through a fun and interactive song.
- learning the names of the 7 days of the week, also through a fun song.
- learning the names of articles of clothing through the song "Look who's here".
- we practiced writing our names in English * Please help your child practice writing their name in English using the correct format (capital letter at the beginning and lower case letters for the rest).
- reading a Eid-ul-Adha poem with number words.
- listening to a selection of Robert Munsch stories, and predicting the outcomes of different scenarios throughout the story.
-listening to a real life story of a man that walked for year to perform Hajj, the children were very interested in this story masha'Allah!
Insha'Allah in the upcoming weeks we will be learning the following:
- the sounds and actions of the following letters: s, a, t, i, p, n.

8:05-8:30AM Daily Morning Routine in SK1
Students are learning to sign their names early morning when they come to the class. This activity can help the children learn how to write their names in Arabic.All children are expected to be able to write their first name and recognize it. Masha’Allah I have most of my students know how to write their names. After signing their names, the students then can choose a colouring or a quiet activity until the bell rings for circle time.
Duaa:In SK1 we know the importance of reciting specific du’aas during the day. Before we eat we recite. Before entering the bathroom we recite, We will learn what to say before we go to sleep soon inshaAllah. Please help your child recite these du’aa even in the comfort of their own home. We recite daily together the morning duaa. For the month of September the whole school masha’Allah including the Sk1 are learning to recite the September Dua’aa. Masha'Allah most of the kids learned the du`aa for the month of September. Way to go SK1!

Alhamdullelh, we are reviewing and singing the alphabets daily. The children learned that there are 28 letters in the Arabic Alphabet. Last week we finished reviewing the letter Aleef. We learned how to write Aleef with Fatha, damma and kasra. Please ask your children about it and watch as they make the sound and the action of the three short vowels.
Lesson Title:The letter Aleef أ The students worked on the Arabic letter in the classroom.
Reading:Read the letter with short vowels (fatha, kasra and dama)أإأ
Writing:Practice writing the letter Aleef at home.
Orally:Ask the kids what is your name? and how are you? in Arabic. Know the different between asking a boy or a girl ( feminine and masculine ) كيف حالك ؟ ما اسمـك؟ The kids have to answer in a complete sentences.

Library:
We go to the school’s Library every Monday. Teacher Nancy our wonderful Librarian explained to the students the Library Manners:
Eyes on the reader
Ears listening carefully Feet still
Hands to yourself
Mouths silent

Math:
We’ve been reviewing our numbers 1 to 10. We’ve also been practicing our oral counting. We use the daily calendar to do our counting.
Science:
Children are natural scientists. They learn by touching and feeling, noticing, asking questions and by trying things out for themselves.
We are still learning about the Five Senses. We did a fun science experiment in class were all the SK1 students took part by using their five senses. The children got to drew their findings in their science journals. Please ask your child about it! We will spend more time in this topic next week insha'Allah.
Social skills:
We’re working really hard on our social skills! We’re are learning to be good at sharing toys, smiling at each other, and apologizing to each other if we hurt each others’ feelings. We say please and thank you to each other
Feelings/Emotions:
This week I discussed the different feelings with the children through reading the following stories below. The children will learn that they can show their emotions and say how they feel without hurting others. I will spend some time in this topic insha'allah.
Islamic studies:
We are learning about Hajj. We learned that Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. We read the story of prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) and we learned about the life of prophet Ibrahim, the sacrifice and the building of Ka’aba. SK1 kids really enjoyed listening to this story.
In addition, the children participated in a special workshop ( The Hajj Workshop) organized by the Islamic studies teachers at Abraar school and the grade six students. Mashsa’Allah SK1 had so much fun and they learned a lot from this amazing workshop.
Masha’Allah SK1 also learned the Hajj nasheed.

Art:
We integrated Islamic studies, Language and Art. The SK1 made a beautiful craft about the Hajj. Please check out our bulletin boards!

Quran: Every morning we start our day off by enriching our hearts with some beautiful verses from the holy Qur’an.
