SK1 NEWS!

Language Art/phonics:
We had lots of fun learning the sounds and the actions of the following letters C, K, E and H. Please ask your child about it and watch as they do the actions that go along with the sounds. This year we are putting a lot of emphasis on the proper writing method of the letters in lower-case and capital form. We are also discovering the sounds that these letters make as they appear in the start, middle, or end of different words. The Jolly phonics system has been a proven success, and is being used in many educational institutions nationally, and internationally. Please visit http://www.jollylearning.co.uk/.

Masha'Allah, all the students now know how to write their first names.

We learned new sight words and rhyming.

Useful website:  www.starfall.com for sound and letter recognition.

Special

We've had some shining stars amongst us!

Sara and Fajr

Congratulation to the most recent starts of the week.

We hope to see many more stars brightening up our Sk1 classroom insha'Allah.

Islamic studies:
In SK1 we know the importance of reciting specific du’aas during the day. When leaving our classroom we recite quietly, before entering the bathroom we recite, before we eat we recite. We learned what to say after we finish eating and what to say if forgot the dua’a.

Next we will learn the five pillar of Islam through a nasheed, and through some arts & crafts insha'Allah.

We will also learn what to say before we go to sleep soon inshaAllah. Please help your child recite these du’aa even in the comfort of their own home.

Math:
We are working in our new unit “patterns”. Students started by identifying and making simple patterns.

Students used manipulative with different colors and shapes to learn this concept and have more fun.

We will continue working on patterning and sequencing for sometime insha'Allah.

Science:
We learned some of the properties of different objects such as: hard/soft, rough/smooth, float/sink etc.

We did an experiment and we tested different objects to see if they will sink or float.

Mash'Allah the SK1 did a fantastic job in their predictions! way to go SK1!
The students also draw their observation on a blank sheets.

Art:
We are experimenting with colors and seeing what results in blending different combinations of colors. We learned about the primary colors. Last week we learned about the secondary colors.  Al-Hamdullelah, the students had lots of fun mixing and painting. Please check our bulletin board! Do not be surprised if you see them doing this at home!

Gentle Reminder:

Please remember to post your child's show and tell schedule on the fridge to remind him/her of the day they suppose to do their turn.

Please make sure that any money sent to school with your child is in a labelled closed ziplock bag or sealed envelope.

Please dress your child appropriately for the weather, keeping in mind that we go outside daily unless it is raining. Since the weather is getting cold these days, please send mittens/gloves, a hat, a neck warmer (NO SCARVES please for safety issues) and a warm jacket with your child and remember to LABEL his/her belongings. The inside tag of a garment is a good place to write your child's name! A lot of the kids have similar items and can easily get confused between them.

Please do remember to send spoon/fork in your child lunch bag.

Please do send a couple of healthy snacks and lunch with your child on a daily basis.

Please try your best to read daily to your child, five to ten minutes of reading is more than enough when it is done on a daily basis.

Please do keep your child at home when he/she is not feeling well, that will help your child feel better quickly and will prevent others from catching the sickness that your child has.

Please send with your child disinfecting wipes e.g. Lysol, Clorax..etc. to clean the tables the children use on a daily basis to prevent/minimize spreading of viruses and germs between kids.

Please send two boxes of Kleenex with your child.
