SK1 Updates (Feb10-Feb14)

As-salam Alikum Dear Parents,

Language Arts:

For the last two weeks, our focus was on practicing the short and long vowels of our fourth phonic book. MashaAllah the SK1 are doing a wonderful job in distinguishing between these vowels. Way to go SK1.

SK1 students learned a song about the short and long vowels. Please ask your child about it!!

We also finished our Vowel Sound Book.

Reading:

All our SK1 students finished reading our second book of the guided reading “I like Me!”

We started a new book “What shines?”

The students are practicing to read the following sentences. They are also looking for short and long vowels in theses sentences:

The sun shines.

A flashlight shines.

The moon shines.

A dime shines.

A ring shines.

Shoes shine.

I shine.

Please ask your child about these sentences and watch how your child is learning to sound out and read by themselves, MashaAllah J

In addition sister Madlein came to our classroom on Wednesday and read the story “The Snail and the Whale”. After finished reading, sister Madline asked some comprehension questions about the story. MashaAllah SK1 did an amazing job trying to recall some information from the story.

We wrote in our Journals some sentences from the second book of our Guided Reading.

Useful websites to help the students practice reading:

Math:

In measurement we are learning about capacity.

We did hands on activities to enhance students learning in math.

We also finished some worksheets about capacity.

Social studies:

We are learning about different feelings such as (happy-sad-excited-frustrated..etc.)

We made a nice craft about this lesson. Please check out our bulletin board

We are also learning about community helpers.

SK1 finished their community helpers booklets by reading the sentences underneath each picture and then colouring it.

 Islamic Studies:

To have some hands on learning activities for Wudu. We did the following:

The teacher modeled to the children the steps for making wudu.

All the SK1 boys and girls performed wudu. MashAllah!

The students really enjoyed this activity and they are now waiting to learn how to perform salat.

Next class inshaAllah we will learn about Salat.

Gym:

We played with our new parachute.

We played different games including soccer.

Star of the week!!

We've had some shining stars amongst us!
