SK1 Weekly Updates: (Nov.24-Nov.28)!

Assalam Alikum Dear Parents,

 Language Arts:

I   In phonics, alhamdullelah we finished the second jolly phonic book. This book covered the following letters: c- k -e- h- r -m and d. Last week we finished the last two letters( m and d). We learned how to write both the upper and lower case of these letters and we learned the sounds and actions.

Please check the YouTube below for further practice at home:

The progress of this book can be assessed on the skills checklist below:

Reading:

Recognize the second group of sounds: c, k, e, h, r, m, d.

Can blend simple words made up from the sounds learned so far.

Saying the sounds, and making the word is the next stage after recognizing the sounds.

Knows that when you see <ck> in a word (as in duck), you only say the /c/ sound once.
The child should sound it out as d-u-ck (not d-u-c-k). This is also applies to other doubled consonants in words such as bell, rabbit, carrot, and dress.

Writing:

Holds pencil correctly.
Ensure the pencil is held between the thumb and first two fingers.

Can write the second group of sounds: c k, e, h, r, m, d.

Can hear the ending sound of a word.
For example, that red ends with a /d/ sound.

Reading in our classroom:

We will start our next book of shared/guided reading next week inshaAllah.
The book title is: What can I see?

Writing:
MashaAllah SK1 wrote the following two sentences in their journals.

What can I see?

I see an ant.

Math:

We learned how to write number two.
We learned what comes before and after both number one and two.
In addition we are learning to count by 5's and 10's.

Science:

We are still learning about the three states of matter (Liquid-Solid-Gas).

We read the book:
Change it! Solid, liquids, gases and you
In this book the children learned:

Matters around you
What is a solid?
change its shape!
what's a liquid?
pour it in!
what's a gas?
fill it up!
Freezing and melting!

Islamic Studies:

We learned about the story of prophet Nuh (pbuh).

We integrated islamic studies with Art and the SK1 made a beautiful craft about it. Please check out our bulletin boards and ask your child to retell the story for you!
