SK1 Weekly Updates: (Jan.19- Jan. 23)

Assalam Alikum Dear Parents,
Below are some updates from our classroom!

Language Arts:
Alhamdullelah we finished Jolly phonic book #3.

Please check the YouTube below for further practice at home.

The progress of jolly phonic book # 3 can be assessed on the skills checklist below:

Reading
Recognize the third group of sounds: g, o, u, l, f, b.

Blends simple three-letter words made up from the sounds taught so far.
Examples that can be used are: sun, dog, rat, bus, set, sit, top, and, fat, hat, lit, fit, leg, peg, hid, cat, cut, man.

Can hear simple rhymes.

Knows that when two letters next to each other make the same sound, the sound is said only once.
so hill is / h-i-ll/, not /h-i-l-l/. This also applies to other doubled consonants in words such as rabbit, duck, carrot, dress, and kitten.

Writing
Holds pencil correctly, between thumb and first two fingers.

Can write the third group of sounds: g, o, u, l, f, b.
Can write simple two-or three letter words by listening for the sounds.
Examples are: pat, net, bus, run, in, ant.

Can hear the middle sound of a word.
For example, that red has an /eh/sound in the middle. Middle sounds are more difficult to hear than beginning or ending sounds.

Reading and Writing in our classroom:
We read some stories and learned new sight words from them.
Students were able to put the sight words we are learning in sentences.
SK1 students wrote the following sentence in their journals:

My favourite animal is ..........

January's Du'aa'

The du'aa of the month of January is:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda, wat-tuqa, wal-`afafa, wal-ghina

"Oh Allah, I pray to You for guidance, piety, the ability to desert misconduct & ill-thoughts, and sufficiency (or contentment)"

Reference : Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3489

In-book reference : Book 48, Hadith 120

The Character Trait for this month is Leadership. The four attributes that we ask Allah for in this du'aa are very important elements in fostering a leader. A leader should ask Allah for guidance, piety, abandoning what's less virtuous, and  most importantly to completely rely on Allah to achieve the ultimate sense of contentment (al ghina).

I hope you can play a role in encouraging your children understand and practice this du'aa.

MashaAllah many of the students in sk1 memorized the dua'a. Way to go SK1.

Islamic Studies:

We are learning about the life and sayings of rasulullah prophet Mohammed (pbuh). SK1 are learning a new nasheed about prophet Muhammad(pbuh). Please ask your child about it.
