Show and Tell:
MashaAllah and thank you to all the SK1 students who brought some items for show and tell. This activity is really important to improve the students' speaking skills in Arabic and to increase their self confidence insha'Allah. Please remember to post your child’s Show & Tell on the fridge to remind him/her of the day they suppose to do their turn.
Reading in our classroom: (Shared/Guided Reading)
Alhamdullelah we finished reading our second mini-book ماذا ترى؟
December Du`aa'
Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) used to recite this du'aa, among other du'aa, at the beginning of prayer right after Takbeeratul Ihram (Allahu Akbar) and before surtaul Fatiha. We are linking this important ritual to this month's trait, responsibility.
سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ تَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ
Subhānak Allāhumma wa bi hamdika, tabārakas- muka wa ta’āla jadduka, wa lā ilaha ghayruk
“Glory and praise is to You, O Allah, blessed is Your Name and exalted is Your majesty, none has the right to be worshiped but You"
SK1 students are practicing to recite the dua'a daily at circle time.
English reference : Vol. 1, Book 5, Hadith 806
December Trait: Responsibility
December's trait according to our Character Education Program is 'Responsibility'.
The Prophet of Allah (pbuh) said “The two feet of the son of Adam will not move from near his Lord on the Day of Judgement until he is asked about five (matters):
- About his life – how he spent it;
- About his youth – how he took care of it;
- About his wealth – how he earned it; and
- Where he spent it; and
- About that which he acted upon from the knowledge he acquired.”
[Reported by at-Tirmidhi]
What is Responsibility?
· Following through on our commitments
· Accountability – for what you do and do not do
· Exercising self-control – take charge of your own life
· Planning and setting goals – identify what success means to you and plan to achieve them
· Choosing positive attitudes – choose to be enthusiastic and optimistic
· Fulfilling our duties – acknowledge and meet your legal and ethical obligations
· Being self-reliant – manage your affairs and enable yourself to ‘pay your own way’
· Pursuing excellence – do your best, persevere, be diligent, work hard
· Being proactive – take initiative
· Being persistent – stick to it and finish what you start
· Being reflective – think ahead to anticipate consequences
Setting a good example – you teach what you do, as well as what you say
We encourage you to assign age-appropriate responsibilities to your children while creating a mechanism to check on how they are achieving and taking care of these responsibilities.
SK1 students watched the following You Tube video to learn more about this topic. Please ask your child what they learned from the this video.
Science:
We finished learning about the three states of matter ( liquid-solid and gas ) unit. We started a new unit, this unit is about living and non-living things. We integrated this unit with islamic studies and the students learned the difference between things that are living and non living. They learnd about the different characteristics all living things have. They can now tell why something is living or non-living. Please ask your child about this topic. We will spend sometime in this unit insha'Allah.
SK1 drew in their science journals living and non-living things.
