April Du'aa

ربِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

Rabbi iGhfir lee waliwālidayya wa liman daKhala baytiya mu’minan walilmumineena wal-mu’mināti

My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women.

Duaa from Surat Nuh, verse 28

Sk1 students are learning to recite the above dua'a.

April's trait: Respect

This month's trait according to our character education program is "Respect".

We talked about what we can show respect to, and we identified 4P's: People, property, point of view (or perspective), and places.

What might respect look like or sound like?

·         Respecting yourself: Accept and honour your own skills and challenges, emotions, body, beliefs, and abilities.
·         Being fair: Listen to all sides of the story before reaching a decision or resolution.
·         Being reliable: Keeping our promises is one of the easiest ways to show that we respect someone and that we mean what we say.
·         Obeying the law: Follow the rules, as they are often in place to protect us. If there is disagreement with a rule, discuss it as a group to create a greater understanding of the reason for the rule.
·         Showing consideration: Show concern for the welfare of people, animals, and the environment.
·         Embracing differences: Understand that other people’s values, beliefs, and practices are just as important as our own.
·         Respecting the diseased (whether a Muslim or a follower of a different faith): During the prophet’s presence in Medina, it was narrated that a funeral passed by Him and he stood up as a sign of respect. It was said to him, “It is a funeral of a non-Muslim.” The Prophet said, “Was he not a soul?”

Reading in our class:
Below are some of the stories we read in our classroom.

Literature Club:

Every Thursday afternoon small groups of SK1 students step out of the classroom and join Tr. Martha and sister Amina our Literature Club volunteers in a huddled reading session. The children have been really enjoying these sessions, and look forward to having them every Thursday inshaAllah.

Guided/Shared Reading:
SK1 students acted like teachers. They sat on the teacher's chair and took turns reading the following story. Mash'Allah the students' oral communication skills in reading are improving a lot. Please ask your child to read for you!
