Welcome back!!! Sk1 updates (Jan. 6- Jan. 10)

 Assalamu alikum Dear Parents

Language Arts:
We have been reviewing all the letter sounds and actions we took so far.  Last week we learned about the-an family.

Sk1 finished some worksheets about it. This term we will focus on teaching the students how to read and write simple sentences by sounding out the letters and then blend them together. Also we will learn new sight words each week and will allow the students to model the teacher by reading simple sentences to the class every day inshaAllah.
Last week the students have been excited to read for their classmates during circle time.

These are some of the sentences your child learned to read:
I can skip.
I can slide

I can run.
I can ride.

I can skate

I can swing.
I can do anything.

Inshaallah we will add more sentences every week. In addition, we finished the first list of the bookmark . The book mark includes a list of sight words. Each week the students will  get a new one.
I am also working on the DRA2 assessment: The DRA2 stands for developmental reading assessment. The purpose of this assessment is to divide the Sk1 students based on their basic reading abilities and their knowledge of the alphabet sounds to different groups for the guided reading program inshaAllah.

Next:  we will start our forth phonic book inshaAllah.

Math:

We finished reviewing and practicing the numbers from one to ten each numeral and in number

words. We also revisited the pattern unit.

Next:  Our focus will be on Measurement.

Science:
We started our winter theme.

Theme Goals:

To provide opportunities for children to learn the following:

Winter is a season of the year that comes after fall and before spring.

Winter is the time of the year with the shortest days and longest nights.

In the winter, many animals and insects hibernate.

Many plants stop growing, and their seeds, roots, or bulbs live underground waiting for warmer weather.
Winter weather usually becomes very cold, often with snow, sleet, and ice. Heavy clothing helps protect us and keep us comfortable and warm.

We integrated science with Art and we dress Lolo!!! Please check our bulletin board.

Islamic Studies:
We are learning about Wudu (Ablution).

Star of the week!
We've had some shining stars amongst us!

 Nabila and Ibrahim

Congratulation to the most recent starts of the week.
We hope to see many more stars brightening up our Sk1 classroom inshaAllah.
