Below are some updates from our classroom!
Language Arts:
Alhamdullelah, we started our fourth phonic book. Your child will learn these groups of sounds: ai, j, oa, ie, ee and or.
Last two weeks we covered the following: ai, j, oa and ie. The focus in this book will be about vowels and digraphs.

Digraphs:
The child needs to recognize the digraph letter sound from the two letters. Digraphs such as ai, have two letters, but make one sound.
The child should say the digraph sound (such as /ai ), not the sound of each letter. This can be difficult at first but become easier inshaAllah with some practice with regular words such as rain, pain, wait, nail, paint.
Vowels:
Rule: When two vowels go walking, the first does the talking. Examples of words that follow this rule are rain, green, leaf, tie, coat, toe and cue.
Although this rule has some exceptions, it is useful in the early stages.
Please check the YouTubes below for further practice at home.

Reading:
Sk1 are doing an amazing job reading to their classmates. We are now in our fourth book of the guided/shared reading. The book name is: The story of an egg.
Math:
We are still learning about measurement using non standard tools. The class really enjoyed measuring items with their snap cubes, jumbo paperclips, popsicle sticks and straws.
The children are measuring objects using nonstandard units, such as connecting cubes, paper clips, pencils, erasers, crayons, hands, feet, and shoes. Children need to understand the idea of measuring in tangible units before they can move on to using rulers and standard units. Measuring how many paper clips or crayons long an object is builds a foundation for understanding the relationship between quantities and symbolic numbers. Nonstandard units also make children aware of the need for standard units of measurement. As they measure the same object with units such as their hands or feet, children will see that different-sized units, such as hands and feet, yield different measurements which is the tallest, shortest, and longest.
In addition we are learning how to count by 5s.
Science:
Mash'Allah SK1 finished working in their dioramas projects. We had a wonderful results walhamdullelah. Monday we will start the diorama presentations inshaAllah . Please check the presentation dates in the homework folder.
In addition we are learning about hibernation. We integrated science with Art. We made a beautiful craft about animals that hibernate in the winter. Please check out our bulletin board!
