January's Duaa

In line with our character of the month "Honesty", our du'aa for January is:

 اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الصدق و اليقين والْمُعَافَاةَ
Allāhumma inny as`aluka assidqa wal yaQeena wal mu`āfāh

“O Allah I ask you for the truth, strong belief, and safety"

Du'aa derived from:
Reference : Sunan Ibn Majah 3849
In-book reference : Book 34, Hadith 23
English translation : Vol. 5, Book 34, Hadith 3849

January's trait: Honesty

The character trait of this month according to our Character Education Program is  'Honesty'.
We will be talking about the Seerah of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) during January and February. He was known as the honest and trustworthy even before he became a messenger. Students will be learning how honesty can be shown in relationships and daily interactions. Students are also expected to practice honesty in school as they are trying to unlock their monthly character trackers.
Abdullah (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah, , said, “Truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise. [Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Number 6308]

What might honesty look like or sound like?

·         Telling parents/guardians/caregivers or a teacher about a mistake and facing the consequences of the action
·         Telling on someone if it will make the situation better, but not telling on them just to get them into trouble
·         Expressing real feelings without anger, without blaming others, without exaggerating, and without hurting the feelings of someone else
·         Turning in something that is lost (e.g., money or a personal belonging) and encouraging others to do the same
·         When someone wants to copy an assignment, explaining politely that it would be dishonest and that it’s best to do one’s own work
·         Doing schoolwork honestly and not cheating during a test
·         Being truthful with friends and thanking them for being truthful with you
·         Not getting angry at someone when they are honest with you in a respectful manner
·         Refraining from gossiping, spreading rumours, or talking behind someone’s back
·         Standing up for your beliefs, even if others might not agree
