SK1 Updates (Mar.24-Mar.28)

Assalam Alikum Dear Parents,
Below are some class updates:
Language Arts:
In phonics, Alhamdullelah we finished book 5 of the Jolly phonics.
Next inshaAllah we will cover book 6. The progress in this book can be assessed on the skills checklist below.
Reading:
Recognizes the sixth group of sounds: y, x, ch, sh, th, th.
Can read consonant blends. For example: cr, sl, sm, dr.
Writing:
Can write the sixth group of sounds: y, x, ch, sh, th, th.
Can write the capital letters.
Can begin to choose between <oa>, <o-e> and <ow> in spelling words, and between <ee> and <ea>.



Reading in our class!!
We are learning to read the following sentences from our new book (What Can I See?). Please ask your child about this book!

I see an ant.
I see a stone.
I see a leaf.
I see a home.
I see a bee.
I see a flower.
But no one can see me!

In addition the Reading Buddies program is going very well alhamdullelah.
The grade 4 students visited our class on Friday to read for the SK1. We are hoping that the reading buddy program will be a nice experience for both classes and help develop friendship and a sense of responsibility between them.

I also revisited the the theme of bullying. I read the story ( Lucy and the bully). Please ask your child what did they learn to do in case some one is bullying them!!

Math:
We are learning about the 2D shapes.
We did my shapes booklet.
I read the stories shapes a round me, Circles and squares.
Next inshaAllah we will learn about the 3D shapes.
We integrated math with Physical Education. We made some 2D shapes with our bodies at Gym time!!







Science:
We are learning about the five senses. We did a nice experiment. Please ask your child about it!

Science Fair:
SK1 students had the opportunity to visit the Science Fair for the Abraar students from grade 5 and 6. The Science Fair was on Wednesday at the school's Gym.

Art:
We mixed art, science  and math together. We reviewed the primary and secondary colours and we painted 2D shapes using he secondary colours. Please check out our bulletin board. MashaAllah the SK1 managed to draw some beautiful mosques using the 2D shapes. Good job Sk1.

Islamic Studies:
We are still learning about Salah.
I read the book How to Pray?
We learned the number of rakaat in prayers.


Star of the Week!
We've had some shining stars amongst us! Congratulations to Reema.





Student of the Month!
We have finished our star of the week theme this week. We started the student of the month theme.
At the end of each month, I will choose some students to be awarded the student of the month. This award will be based on learning skills or work habits in the classroom.

The theme for the month of March was: Responsibility and Organization.


The theme for the month of April will be: Independent work and collaboration.
