As-salamu-alaikum wa Rahmatullah Dear Parents,I hope and pray that all of you are doing well. We had a wonderful week alhamdulilah!
Language Arts:
We are still reviewing the Uppercase of the alphabets. We will start the Jolly Phonics series 1-7 books soon inshaAllah.
What is Jolly Phonics?
Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children.
Letter Sound Order
The sounds are taught in a specific order (not alphabetically). This enables children to begin building words as early as possible.
The five skills taught in Jolly Phonics
1.Learning the letter sounds
Children are taught the 42 main letter sounds. This includes alphabet sounds as well as digraphs such as sh, th, ai and ue.
2.Learning letter formation
Using different multi-sensory methods, children learn how to form and write the letters.
3.Blending
Children are taught how to blend the sounds together.
Show & Tell:
MashaAllah the SK1 children are doing a wonderful job in their Show & Tell. InshaAllah we will continue this activity until the end of the year. Children got to share some of their favourite shirts, and books with the class through the means of an oral presentation. Please remember to post your child’s Show & Tell on the fridge to remind him/her of the day they suppose to do their turn.
Social skills:
We’re working really hard on our social skills! We’re becoming exceptionally good at sharing toys, smiling at each other, and apologizing to each other if we hurt each others’ feelings. We say please and thank you to each other!
Islamic studies:
We are learning about Hajj and we learned that Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. We read the story of prophet Ibrahim (pbuh) and we learned about the life of prophet Ibrahim, the sacrifice and the building of Ka’aba. We will participate in the Hajj workshop at Abraar School on October 1th inshaAllah.
I read the story Aboodi's Hajj from our new Islamic text book ( Allah and our World), SK1 kids really enjoyed listening to this story.
Masha’Allah SK1 also learned a new nasheed about Hajj.
Please ask your child about it!
We are also learning a new nasheed:
Twinkle, twinkle, litter star
Who has made you what you are?
Shinning over land and sea,
Higher than the tallest tree.
Allah has made you and me
Like the star so perfectly.
In Math:
We’ve been reviewing our numbers 1-10. We’ve also been practicing our oral counting up to 20. For our calendar time, the kids are learning to count the days of the week by using the ordinal numbers e.g. First, second, third…etc. The kids are enjoying the days of the week and the weather songs.
We introduced the patterning unit. We will spend some time in this unit inshaAllah. We will identifying simple patterns followed by more complicated ones. Students will also get a chance to create their own patterns through rhythms, and beats!
We talked about the weather and mainly focused on the fall season. We learned about the different colours of the leaves during the fall and we observed the transition from the summer season into the fall season. I read two stories about the fall one is called (Colorful leaves ) and the second is(Fresh Fall Leaves)
Gym:
To release some of our never-ending energy, we’ve been frequenting the gym, and the playground. Some of our activities have included: Fire safety procedures (including fire drills) - warming up exercises, the pizza game, what time is it Mr. Wolf, and the fire, water and earth games. We also play duck, duck goose. In addition the girls enjoyed playing with the skipping ropes and the boys played football game with teacher Malika.
SK1 used their painting brushes and their imagination to draw pictures of what they like to do on Eid Day! They painted their pictures while singing Eid is coming soon… Please check our bulletin board!
Star of the week!
