SK1 Weekly Updates: (Oct.14-Oct. 17)

As-salamu-alaikum wa Rahmatullah Dear Parents,I hope and pray that all of you are doing well. We had a wonderful week alhamdulilah!

 Language Art/phonics:
Al hamdullelh, we started our first phonic book and we had lots of fun learning the sounds of the following letters S and A. Please ask your children about them and watch as they make the sounds and the actions. This year we are putting a lot of emphasis on the proper writing method of the letters in lower-case and capital form. We are also discovering the sounds that these letters make as they appear in the start, middle, or end of different words.
The Jolly phonics system has been a proven success, and is being used in many educational institutions nationally, and internationally. Please visit http://www.jollylearning.co.uk/.

Useful website:  www.starfall.com for sound and letter recognition.

Reading:
I read the following stories:

Manners at the playground.
An Apple A Day

Writing:

SK1 wrote in their journals the following sentence:

I see a red apple.

Social Skills:
SK1 are working really hard to learn more about manners. They are learning to make good choices. We introduced (good choices )versus( poor choices) during our circle time. Each student was provided with a reward card. The reward card for good choices has the numbers from (1-20). Each time the student perform a good choice the teacher will circle one number. When the student has all 20 numbers circled they will get to choose something from the treasure box. This inshaAllah will help the students to remember using good manners.

Islamic Studies:
We are learning about the 5 pillars of Islam. MashAllah SK1 are learning a new nasheed.
Please ask your child about it!

Pillars of Islam

By Noor Art- We Are Muslims

One, One, only One, only One, Allah
These are the pillars of Islam,
Only One Allah.

Pray, Pray, Pray Salah,
Pray five times a day,
These are the pillars of Islam,
Pray five times a day.

Give, Give, Give Zakat,
Give to help the poor,
These are the pillars of Islam,
Give to help the poor.

Fast, Fast, Fast all day,
Fast in Ramadan,
These are the pillars of Islam,
Fast in Ramadan.

Round, Round, Round we go,
When we make the hajj.
These are the pillars of Islam
Make our pilgrimage.

Duaa:
Since the theme for the month of October is diversity we are learning a new nasheed which will help the student better understand this theme inshaAllah.
The name of this nasheed is Muslim Kids! Please ask your child about it.

Math:
We are still working in the pattern unit. We did many worksheets about it. In addition and to have some hands on activities in math, we integrated this subject with art and SK1 students made beautiful bracelets! MashAllah way to go SK1!

Star Of The Week!

We’ve had some shining stars amongst us! Congratulations to the following people for being the most recent STARS OF THE WEEK:   Layan and Umar

We hope to see many more stars brightening up our SK1 classroom. The stars of the week are chosen based on overall behavior throughout the week, homework completion, participation, and acts of kindness.

Important Reminder:

Please remember to post your child's show and tell schedule on the fridge to remind him/her of the day they suppose to do their turn.

Please dress your child appropriately for the weather, keeping in mind that we go outside daily unless it is raining. Since the weather is getting cold these days, please send mittens/gloves, a hat, a neck warmer (NO SCARVES please for safety issues) and a warm jacket with your child and remember to LABEL his/her belongings. The inside tag of a garment is a good place to write your child's name! A lot of the kids have similar items and can easily get confused between them.

Please do send a couple of healthy snacks and lunch with your child on a daily basis.

Please try your best to read daily to your child, five to ten minutes of reading is more than enough when it is done on a daily basis.

Please do keep your child at home when he/she is not feeling well, that will help your child feel better quickly and will prevent others from catching the sickness that your child has.

Jazakumullahu-khairan for your co-operation and support!
