SK1 Weekly Updates: (Oct.20- Oct.24)

As-salamu-alaikum wa Rahmatullah Dear Parents,I hope and pray that all of you are doing well. We had a wonderful week alhamdulilah!

Language Art/phonics:

We are still working in our first book of Jolly phonics. Alhamdullelah we covered the following letters: s,a,t, and i. 

Please ask your children about them and watch as they make the sounds and the actions. This year we are putting a lot of emphasis on the proper writing method of the letters in lower-case and capital form. We are also discovering the sounds that these letters make as they appear in the start, middle, or end of different words.

Sight words:

Sk1 are learning new sight words each week inshaAllah.

Reading and Social Skills:
We read the following stories:

Manners in public.
Manners at the table.







Reading buddies:
The reading buddies program has been a huge success alhamdullelah. InhaAllah we will be continuing this program until the end of the year.

Writing:
SK1 wrote in their journals the following sentence:

I go to school.

Math:
We are still working in the pattern unit.The students completed different worksheets related to this topic. 
We also had hands on activitie in math. SK1 used manipulatives of diferent shapes and colours to reinforce the taught materials.

Next insha'Allah,We we will be learning about one to one corresponding in counting different objects and match it with similar groups.  We will be also learning about sorting.

Science:

We learned some of the properties of different objects such as: hard/soft, rough/smooth, float/sink etc. 


We did an experiment and we tested different objects to see if they will sink or float.

Mash'Allah the SK1 did a fantastic job in their predictions! way to go SK1!



We also learned about the primary colours and what happens from mixing these specific colours. We did an exciting experiment in class about the primary colour using food coloring. The students had the chance to observe and practice mixing the different colours in their groups. We also learned about the seconday colours that result from mixing these primary colours. Do not be surprised if you see them doing this at home!
Art:   
We managed to create a beautiful crafts from painting with the primary colours. This craft was a combination of Science, Art and fun!! We also integrated our current theme diversity with this craft.













Islamic Studies:
We are still learning about the 5 pillars of Islam. We also learned about Hijra, the significance of it, and what the prophet had to go through in order to build a community in Madinah.

Pillars of Islam

One, One, only One, only One, Allah
These are the pillars of Islam,

Make our pilgrimage.

Duaa:

We are reciting daily the dua'a for the month of October during circle time.

Gym:
Abraar School is currently doing a Hijra Simulation. All students are walking and running laps around the gym to traverse the distance between Mecca and Madina. Each student and staff is contributing to the 7040 laps needed! 
This activity was proceeded by class talks and discussions about Hijra, the significance of it, and what the prophet had to go through in order to build a community in Madinah.


Star Of The Week!

We’ve had some shining stars amongst us! Congratulations to the following people for being the most recent STARS OF THE WEEK:   Rahaf and Ali


We hope to see many more stars brightening up our SK1 classroom. The stars of the week are chosen based on overall behavior throughout the week, homework completion, participation, and acts of kindness.

Picture Day October 31

Please note that photographers will be coming in on October 31, 2014 to take pictures of all elementary school students. All students are expected to come to school well groomed and nicely dressed.
