In Phonics:
We will start our first phonic book this week insha’Allah. This book will cover the following letters: s, a, t, i, p and n. The sounds are taught in a specific order (not alphabetically). This enables children to begin building words as early as possible.

Show & Tell.
SK1 are doing a wonderful job in their show & tell. Insha’Allah we will continue this activity until the end of the year. The Show & Tell is a part of our week that we all look forward to. Children got to share some of their favourite shirts, and books with the class through the means of an oral presentation. Please remember to post your child’s Show & Tell on the fridge to remind him/her of the day they suppose to do their turn.

Social skills:
We’re working really hard on our social skills! We’re becoming exceptionally good at sharing toys, smiling at each other, and apologizing to each other if we hurt each others’ feelings.

Displaying IMG_20140928_230026.jpgIn Math we learned about Hajj counting 1,2,3. we are still working on patterning, and sequencing. Students are learning to identify simple patterns followed by more complicated ones. Students will also get a chance to create their own patterns through rhythms, and beats!

Gym:
To release some of our never-ending energy, we’ve been frequenting the gym, and the playground. Some of our activities have included: Fire safety procedures (including fire drills) - warming up exercises, the pizza game, what time is it Mr. Wolf, and the fire, water and earth game.
We also played with the parachute and with bean bags!!

Du’aa:
SK1 are learning to recite this month's dua'a:

October Du`aa

The Du`aa for this month is selected to align with Abraar's character of the month--Diversity.

Despite all of our differences and diverse realities, we ask Allah to join our hearts and help us achieve peace throughout our relationships. Please encourage your children to memorize this beautiful du`aa.

اللَّهُمَّ أَلِّفْ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِنَا وَأَصْلِحْ ذَاتَ بَيْنِنَا وَاهْدِنَا سُبُلَ السَّلاَمِ

Allāhumma allif baina qulubina, wa aslih thaata bainina, wahdina subulassalami

O Allah! Join our hearts (in love and understanding), mend our

Relationships, and guide us to the path of peace

Reference: Sunan Abi Dawud 969
In-book reference: Book 2, Hadith 580
English translation: Book 3, Hadith 96

In addition sk1 know the importance of reciting specific du’aas during the day. Each day we choose a new student to lead the class in reciting the dua'a. Before we eat we recite, before entering the bathroom we recite. We will learn what to say before we go to sleep soon inshaAllah. Please help your child recite these du’aa even in the comfort of their own home.

Islamic Studies:

Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him)

Displaying IMG_20141001_093122.jpgWe learned about the life of prophet Ibrahim (pbuh): his birth, his return to his people, the birth of his son Ismael (pbuh), the fountain of Zamzam, the sacrifice and the building of the ka’aba.
The children participated in a special workshop on the Hajj organized by the grade six students. Mashsa’Allah SK1 had so much fun during this amazing workshop.

We integrated Islamic studies with Art and SK1 made beautiful crafts about Eid Al- Adha and Hajj. Please check our bulletin boards!

SPECIAL

Displaying IMG_20140909_150007.jpgWe’ve had some shining stars amongst us! Congratulations to the following people for being the most recent STARS OF THE WEEK:   Manar and Souber

We hope to see many more stars brightening up our SK1 classroom. The stars of the week are chosen based on overall behavior throughout the week, homework completion, participation, and acts of kindness.

Looking Ahead (insha’Allah)

During the month of October we will focus on literature through daily story time, shared reading and guided reading. We will also be working on our Jolly Phonic books one and two.

In science, we will be learning about some of the properties of different objects such as: hard/soft, rough/smooth floats/sinks etc. We will also be experimenting with colours and seeing what results in blending different combinations of colours.

In Art, students will be using different mediums to experiment with colours and textures.
