SK1 Weekly Updates:(March 23-March 27)

Assalam alikum Dear Parents,

Below are some updates of our class activities:

Language Arts:

We learned about the short and long vowel OO.

In the jolly phonic book 5 we covered the following letters, sounds and actions with some examples.

W: Action: Blow on to open hand, as if you are the wind, and say wh, wh, wh

ng: Action: Imagine you are a weight lifter and pretend to lift a heavy weight about your head, saying ng,….

Examples: long, bang, lung, ring, strong.

V: pretend to be holding the steering wheel of a van and say vvvvvv

Examples: vest-van-very-drive.

oo: Action: Move head back and forth as if it is the cuckoo, saying uoo,uoo.

Examples of short oo: book, look, hook, took.

Examples of long oo: moon, soon, tooth.

We will continue working in this book to finish all language related activities inshaAllah.

  

Guided Reading:

Sk1 are doing an amazing job reading to their classmates. We are now in our fifth book of the guided reading. The book name is: I like Me!

We are learning to read the following sentences: Please ask your child to read for you :)

I like my smile.

I like my eyes.

I like my shape.

I like my size.

I like my hair.

I like my nose.

I like me, from head to toes!

Math:

We are learning about the 2D shapes.

We finished my 2D shapes booklet.  We are working in our second 2D shapes booklet.

Next inshaAllah we will learn about the 3D shapes.

We integrated math with Physical Education. We made some 2D shapes with our bodies at Gym time!!

Islamic Studies:

We are still learning about the five daily prayers. I reread the book How to Pray?

We learned the number of rakaat in prayers.

We watched some educational videos about performing Salah.

In addition the kids are still practicing how to pray in class. Each week we choose one of the boys to be the Moazen and and another one to be the Imaam. The Kids are very excited for Friday to learn how to pray together with their classmates.

March Du'aa:

اللَّهُمَّ زَيِّنَّا بِزِينَةِ الإِيمَانِ وَاجْعَلْنَا هُدَاةً مُهْتَدِينَ

Allāhumma zayyennā bi zinatel emān waj`alnā hudātan muhtadeen

“O Allah, beautify us with the adornment of faith and make us among those who guide and are rightly guided"

MashaAllah ALL of the students in sk1  memorized the dua'a. Way to go SK1.

Reminder:Talent Show 2015

Talent Show 2015

The Parent Support Team (PST) will be hosting Abraar School’s 2015 Talent Show. This event aims to showcase the talents of the Abraar community.  In previous years, the Talent Show has been a great success enjoyed by all and we hope to see many more Abraarians take part this year. 

Date: April 28th, 2015 

Time: 12:20pm – 1:40pm

Participants: All of Abraar Elementary students, staff and even the Principal!

Talent Required:

YOU can perform any talent you have.  For example: Nasheed Performances, Spoken Words, Martial Arts, Acting Performances, Comedy, Poetry, Juggling, Magic Show etc.  

Please keep in mind that all performances need to adhere to Islamic behavior and values.

Auditions Details: 

• This year auditions will be held through electronic submission only. Please fill out the form below and upload your performance video.
• Auditions should be between 2-5 minutes long.
• 15 performers will be selected to perform on the Abraar School Stage on April 28, 2015.
• (For Grade 5&6 only): You can also audition to be one of the MCs for the show. If you think you have what it takes, grab a friend and send in your audition video.

All electronic submissions will be kept private and disposed off after the selection process.

DON’T FORGET SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS APRIL 7, 2015 @ 12:00 p.m.

Judging Criteria:         

• Results will be announced via email by April 13th, 2015
• Auditions will be viewed and judged by our 3-member judging panel.
• All acts will be scored according to several criteria and the scores tallied for selection.  
• All those selected should agree to attend rehearsals at Abraar School (70 Fieldrow location) on Saturday, April 18, 2015 / between 12:00pm - 3:00pm.

I have noticed that a few books have come back to the library "repaired." I would kindly request that parents do not attempt to repair the damaged books, because I have special material that I use to repair the damaged books. However, informing me of the damage would be greatly appreciated.

Qura'an Update!

Welcome back to Quran Class

SK 1&2 were practicing Surat " Al- Humazaah" and Surat " Attakathur" now insha'Allah they are practicing and memorizing Surat " Al -Kafeeroon" and applying tajweed rules.Please review and practice the above mentioned Surahs, Jazakum Allah Khairan.

Inshaa Allah you all enjoyed your time with your loved-ones over the March break.

Below are some updates from our class activities:

Language Arts:

We started a new unit (Geometry).We are learning about 2D shapes.

We played a bingo shapes and colours game in class. The Sk1 enjoyed very much this hands on activities game.

We will investigate the relationship between 2 dimensional shapes and 3 dimensional figures.

Computer Class:

Since we are learning about the 2D shapes in math, the students are learning to draw different shapes using Microsoft paint. 

Science:

We finished learning about the food groups and healthy eating.
