For the last two weeks we reviewed and studied the letters ( أ – ث ), the name of harakat (fatah, kasra , and dama) and how to read the letters studied with them; this has been accomplished though a number of activities, such as songs, games, stories and competitions. The children have found these activities to be exciting and fun. Please ask your children about them and watch as they make the sounds and the actions.
Reading: Read the letter with short vowels (fatha, kasra and dama)
Writing: Practice writing the letter ث in the arabic workbook and textbook at school.
Orally: Ask the kids what is your name? and how are you? in Arabic. Know the different between asking a boy or a girl ( feminine and masculine ) كيف حالك ؟ ما اسمـك؟ The kids have to answer in a complete sentences.
how many days in a week? كم يوم في الاسبوع ؟
What day is today? ما اليوم ؟
show and tell
Show & Tell:
SK1 are doing a wonderful job in their show & tell. Insha’Allah we will continue this activity until the end of the year. The Show & Tell is a part of our week that we all look forward to. Children got to share some of their favourite shirts, and books with the class through the means of an oral presentation. Please remember to post your child’s Show & Tell on the fridge to remind him/her of the day they suppose to do their turn.
Writing:
Hold pencil correctly.
Correct pencil hold is important. The pencil should be held in the tripod grip between the thumb and first two fingers. If the hold starts incorrectly, it is very difficult to get right later on. You will need to show the correct hold on many occasions, and keep on giving reminders.
Reading:
I read the following stories to help the students learn more about the importance of social skills and manners.
Since we are still discussing the different feelings that people can have. I read the following stories. Please ask your child about it!

October Du`aa'
This month’s du’aa is chosen to correspond to our trait of the month “Coopeation”. Working with others requires certain qualities to help us accomplish goals while being able to get along with other people.
اللهم اجعلني قريباً هيناً ليناً سهلاً
Allāhumma-j`alnī Qareeban hayyinan layyinan sahlan
Mash'Allah SK1 are learning to recite this duaa daily during their circle time.
In addition sk1 know the importance of reciting specific du’aas during the day. Each day we choose a new student to lead the class in reciting the dua'a. Before we eat we recite, before entering the bathroom and after we leave we recite. We will learn what to say before we go to sleep soon inshaAllah. Please help your child recite these du’aa even in the comfort of their own home.

Math:
We are working in the pattern unit. The students completed a couple of worksheets related to this topic.
We also had hands on activitie in math. SK1 used manipulatives of diferent shapes and colours to reinforce the taught materials.
Science:
To have some hands on activities in science, the kids enjoyed working in two activities. The first one was about the fall season were they examined closely the different colours of the leaves using the magnifying glasses and by drawing their observations
in their science journals.
The second activity was about he primary colours and what happens from mixing these specific colours. We did an exciting experiment in class about the primary colour using food coloring. The students had the chance to observe and practice mixing the different colours in their groups. We also learned about the seconday colours that result from mixing these primary colours. Do not be surprised if you see them doing this at home!
Islamic Studies:
We are still learning about the five pillars of Islam. The students learned also that one of Allah (swt) names is the creator الله هو الخالق
We integrated this with art and the kids made a beautiful crafts about this topic. Please check out our bulletin boards.
Star Of The Week!
We’ve had some shining stars amongst us! Congratulations to the following students for being the most recent STARS OF THE WEEK: Hind and Bilal
We hope to see many more stars brightening up our SK1 classroom. The stars of the week are chosen based on overall behavior throughout the week, homework completion, participation, and acts of kindness.
Important Reminder:
Please remember to post your child's show and tell schedule on the fridge to remind him/her of the day they suppose to do their turn.
Please dress your child appropriately for the weather, keeping in mind that we go outside daily unless it is raining. Since the weather is getting cold these days, please send mittens/gloves, a hat, a neck warmer (NO SCARVES please for safety issues) and a warm jacket with your child and remember to LABEL his/her belongings. The inside tag of a garment is a good place to write your child's name! A lot of the kids have similar items and can easily get confused between them.
Please do send a couple of healthy snacks and lunch with your child on a daily basis.
Please try your best to read daily to your child, five to ten minutes of reading is more than enough when it is done on a daily basis.
Please do keep your child at home when he/she is not feeling well, that will help your child feel better quickly and will prevent others from catching the sickness that your child has.
Jazakumullahu-khairan for your co-operation and support!
