In addition we are practicing daily some sight words to help the students start reading soon inshaAllah.

SK1 Updates (Nov4-Nov14)!

Language Art/phonics:
Alhamdullelah we finished our second phonic book. We had lots of fun learning the sounds and the actions of the following letters R, M and D. Please ask your child about it and watch as they do the actions that go along with the sounds. This year we are putting a lot of emphasis on the proper writing method of the letters in lower-case and capital form. We are also discovering the sounds that these letters make as they appear in the start, middle, or end of different words. The Jolly phonics system has been a proven success, and is being used in many educational institutions nationally, and internationally. Please visit http://www.jollylearning.co.uk/.
Another useful website: www.starfall.com

We are also learning new sight words. The SK1 are doing a wonderful job in sounding out and using the hand action to spell new words. The actions of the letters are designed to help the child learn the sound.  Masha’Allah,Way to go SK1.

Assalam alikum,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Accomplishments

In Phonics:
We started our first phonic book. This book will cover the following letters: s, a, t, i, p and n. The sounds are taught in a specific order (not alphabetically). This enables children to begin building words as early as possible. We had lots of fun learning the sounds of two letters last week, the letters S and A. Please ask your child about it and watch as they do the actions that go along with the sounds. This year we are putting a lot of emphasis on the proper writing method of the letters in lower-case and capital form. We are also discovering the sounds that these letters make as they appear in the start, middle, or end of different words. New SK1 Homeroom Teacher

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Dear SK1 Parents/Guardians,

I pray that this finds you and your families in the best of health and iman. T. Iman has submitted her resignation from her current position in order to take a position as an ECE with the OCDSB. Her last day of work will be this Friday. She made many positive contributions to the SK program at Abraar during her tenure and we pray for the best for her in her future endeavors.

Alhamdulillah, we were able to find a replacement for T. Iman. We have hired Sr. Ghada Abou Louz for the SK1 homeroom teacher position. T. Ghada is a familiar face at Abraar, having taught before as a JK teacher and having worked as a teacher's assistant for several years in the JK and SK program at Abraar School. She has also worked as a supply teacher at Abraar at several grade levels including the SK progam. She has a bachelors in science from Dalhousie University, Halifax.

T. Ghada has already started attending the SK1 classroom while in the presence of T. Iman in order to get the students acquainted with her and to familiarize herself with the SKI1's daily routine. This will ease the transition for our students.

Please join me in welcoming T. Ghada as the SK1 Homeroom teacher.

Jazakumullahu khaira,

Arabic- Tr. Salam

Asalamu Alaikum                                                                                              S.K

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to welcome everyone back to the new school year and express some of the excitement that we will be having in Arabic class. The curriculum this year enables the student to learn the basics of the Arabic language by using different methods. These methods encourage eagerness to participate in class while learning in a fun, social and active context that feels psychologically comfortable and safe.

For our first semester, we will insha Allah cover the following:

• learning the basic phonetics with the different harakats of the alphabet letters (Alif to Dal);
• recognizing the different shapes of the same alphabet letter;
• knowing few words that begin with the same letter;
• writing the individual alphabet letters correctly;
• promoting positive Islamic values;
• improving  thinking skills ; and
• Practicing oral skills of communication.

The reading and exercise books will remain in the classroom only to be sent home once in a while for you to be able to see your child’s abilities as they progress. You can contact me by email at sbeseiso@abraarschool.com

Language

In language, we are continuing to practice phonemic sounds and writing in our journals.

We have added comprehension questions (based on stories we read) that the children answer through writing skills and pictures.

Please continue to encourage your child to write and use lots of praise to support their curiosity .

Math- Data Management (Sorting)

Assalamu alaykom,

Sorting at home

Dear Parent/Guardian:
Our class has been examining objects and sorting them based on their characteristics such as colour, size, texture and more. Learning to sort objects is an important skill. You can help your child to develop sorting skills at home by having him/her help you sort laundry, groceries, dishes or toys.

After you and your child have sorted laundry, groceries , dishes, toys or any other objects in your home, talk about how the objects were sorted. Also discuss the importance of sorting objects. For example, it is easier to find dishes in cupboards when they are sorted.

Have fun with this activity, they have a wide imagination on how they can sort objects!

Thank you for your cooperation and support,
Jazakom Allah khayran
